Would you like to know why I grew more and more unbothered by unenlightened individuals who see Africa as a country? Because not only I ended up taking a lot of pleasure at the idea of “The United States of Africa”, but I also take pride in knowing that there is no other continent on earth that possesses a stronger sense of pride and identity than our motherland.
I wouldn’t be able to speak for everyone but I know that I haven’t personally heard ‘Proudly European’ or ‘Proudly Asian’ very often in my lifetime. In fact, what are the chances of a Taiwanese gentleman seeing a Japanese man in South Africa for example, to randomly go straight up to him to meet and greet? However in most cases, the same is not true for us. There is simply no way I would see an African lady in a market in China and not stop a minute or two to enquire about her health and her origins. I love that an African brother anywhere in the world remains a brother, and it’s exactly that powerful emotion of unity, that will make us rise above all expectations and make the sky only a place to rest at. An African proverb reminds us so well that: “If you want to go quickly, go alone. If you want to go far, go together”
“Africa Rising” is a new social investment movement sponsored by Channel O and MultiChoice, Africa’s leading pay television provider. The project was inaugurated by this music video filmed by “Callback Dreams”. The campaign calls for the creation of values shared by Africans and for Africans and urges them to engage in economic and social investments in community-based projects. The music video does an excellent job at depicting the sentiment of hope that makes the African man wakes up everyday to do what he has to do. It is an engaging Pan-African piece with beautiful sonorities that brought together in order of appearance, these rising tenors of our continent’s urban music:
–       The internationally acclaimed South African band Mi Casa
–       Nigeria’s top female singer-songwriter Tiwa Savage
–       The prodigal son of Nigerian music Davido
–       The Ghanaian star Sarkodie who needs no introduction
–       The Bongo Flava artist Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania
–       Lola Rae, the new princess of Afrobeats of Nigerian and Ghanaian descent.
AFRICA RISING MUSIC VIDEO:
The takeoff featured youth engagement hubs on three African regions namely, Southern (Zambia and South Africa), East (Kenya) and West (Ghana and Nigeria). The backgrounds showcased in the video might not look appealing to everyone, but don’t miss the statement that struggle is by all means only the road stop on the journey to inestimable riches.
What make this video so formidable are the energy and the message that emanate from it: Let’s unite for a better Africa! I know the reasons for the African diaspora not to go back home range from the political climates and the comfort of living abroad, to the lack of proper infrastructures and a solid educational system, but we must eventually return home because we are leaders and we are wanted back. Entrepreneurship is on the rise, buildings are on the rise, opportunities for growth are on the rise and everyone wants a piece of our land pie! America, China, India, Brazil, name it. How long are we going to let our continent grow without our help?
