Beijing Named Host City For The 2022 Winter Olympics


The Chinese capital of Beijing has been awarded the hosting rights of the 2022 Winter Olympics after seeing off stiff competition from Kazakh city of Almaty.
Beijing thus made Olympic history as the first city to host both the Summer and Winter games after hosting the summer Olympics in 2008.
The Chinese capital beat Almaty of Kazakhstan by just 44 votes to 40, with one abstention. The voting which was first done electronically before been cancelled after a malfunction was concluded manually.
The 2022 Games will be held in March 2022 during the Lunar New Year and with many outdoor events held against a backdrop of the Great Wall of China.
